Having qualified as a nurse in 1984 I worked as a Staff Nurse in emergency care, hospice care, medicine and surgery. I then spent over 2 years with a medical aid agency, working in Africa with lepers and victims of famine and war. It was in Africa that I first came across complementary methods of healing. This was the start of the long journey ahead.
Following this time I have been continuously studying many areas of holistic and complementary medicine including: Reflexology, Acupuncture, Aromatherapy, Massage, Reiki, Ear Candling, Tuina, Chinese Herbal Medicine and Homoeopathy. I have gained valuable experience studying pharmacology and anatomy & physiology whilst working in the pharmaceutical industry for 9 years when I was studying for most of the above courses on a part time basis. Altogether I have spent 25 years in the health care sector. I have studied in China, London, Cork, Dublin and Sri Lanka and I am totally dedicated to Complementary forms of healing for the sick and infirmed.
On my return from my acupuncture and homoeopathic studies in Sri Lanka and China in Nov 1997, Deirdre made her debut on Irish Television launching "Homoeopuncture" onto the Irish market. Homoeopuncture is the marriage of acupuncture and homoeopathy. Sterile acupuncture needles are soaked in sterile water impregnated with the required homoeopathic remedy. These are inserted into the acupuncture points. Alternatively in the advanced practise of homoeopuncture, a few drops of the substance can be injected into the acupuncture points. This has profound results for example in conditions such as frozen shoulder and tennis elbow. Over the last 10 years I have had many articles published along with numerous radio interviews. I am passionate about what I practice and certainly feel I have found my niche in life!
Robin Hill Clinic is the realization of a dream for me. A true haven of healing and relaxation where a multi faceted approach to chronic illness is proving with time, to be extremely effective in alleviating and indeed "curing" many long-term conditions.
The genesis of The Cork Natural Fertility Clinic has arisen due to the many couples and individuals I have treated during my years of practice. I am very proud of the results we have achieved as a team to date.
What is Acupuncture?
The ancient Chinese art of Acupuncture is over 5,000 years old and is used to help maintain health and well-being. Acupuncture involves the insertion of pre-sterilised needles at predetermined energy points on the body's surface to restore health. It is a holistic therapy that is non-invasive creating a state of calm and relaxation.
In Chinese Medicine to be healthy means to have a free and unimpeded flow of Qi (Qi is a dense form of energy that flows around the body) which not only keeps the body free from disease but there is more balance of mind, body and spirit, a more relaxed and positive outlook and a better state of health and well-being overall.
What conditions does Acupuncture treat?
During illness Qi can move less freely or stagnate and stop. Acupuncture restores the free flow of Qi and re-balances the whole system and for this reason it is effective for lots of conditions.
My main interests include; Male and Female Fertility, Stress, Anxiety, Depression, Digestive Disorders, Respiratory Conditions, Weight Loss, Low Energy Levels, Insomnia, Sports Injuries, Sciatica, Arthritis etc. Acupuncture produces good results for these conditions and is of benefit to Male and Female Health. Or why not treat yourself to a relaxing therapy!
What to expect on your first treatment?
I offer a high quality service unique to each patient. On your first visit I will take a medical history, asking questions about diet, lifestyle relating to the illness you wish me to treat you for. From this I will design a treatment plan to restore balance using a combination of acupuncture, moxibustion and cupping. I will then put in place a treatment plan giving you an approximate idea of how many treatments will be needed for you the patient.
About me. My passion has always been to be living and functioning in the present. My first experience into natural health was working in a health shop, Here’s Health in Cork in 2002. I work in Here’s Health presently and it was a natural progression for me to be a practitioner and in particular to be a practitioner of Acupuncture. For me being a good practitioner is about being present while with you, the patient.
I work with The Cork Natural Fertility Clinic in Cobh (CNFC) and Acupuncture plays a very important role in Fertility. This clinic has a unique approach, in that we see the couple and a team of practitioners such as a Nutritionist, Homoeopath, Cranial Osteopath, Kinesiologist, NLP Practitioner, Counsellor, etc work together utilising a multi disciplinary approach. The clinic has a 58.8% success rate using this already proven method in approaching infertility.
I trained with the Acupuncture Foundation in Dublin for three years and during this time I also observed in the Acupuncture and Herbal Clinic in Dublin . I worked and trained in a hospital setting in Nanjing , China . I have varied experience due to the diversity of the clinics I worked and observed in.
What insurance providers cover treatments?
All the major insurance providers including Quinn Healthcare, VHI, VIVAS, Hibernian Health, HSA and many semi-state and corporate insurance companies cover the Acupuncture treatments.

Marcella Healy's background is in Hotel Management where development and training was one of her key roles. During this role she realised that her trainees developed a higher level of confidence when they were “coached” through the training process instead of being “told what they should do”. They were empowered to take responsibility for their own development which in turn led to a greater sense of achievement and success.
She obtained her Diploma in 2007 and is also a registered trainer with FAS where she combines her coaching and training skills to design and deliver many training programmes from Personal Development to Career planning including CV preparation and interview skills. Marcella believes that the reason these training programmes are successful is by helping raise self awareness and by helping the client to recognise the potential that is in them.
No matter what your experience or circumstances you can always learn new beliefs, perceptions and skills to help create the future that you want. The coach provides a supportive environment to help assess the changes you wish to make and supports you while you set goals and take action to create a future that you want. The coach helps you to focus and stay on track.
The relationshp between the coach and client is equal where the client sets the agenda and the coach asks the questions, moving the client forward. Coaching is focussed on the present and the future. While it may be necessary to look back to establish the causes of some unhelpful thinking we then come back to where you are now and where you want to go.
Because of her own experience and interest in Reiki she became a practitioner in 2007.
Reiki sessions can be followed by a coaching session.

BA (Hons) NUI Cork, Dip. Nutritional Therapeutics, Dip. Diet & Nutrition for Complementary Therapists, FETAC Level 6 Nutrition & Health, mNTOI, mBANT Dip. Yoga Teaching
My awareness of the link between nutrition and health began at a very early age when I began suffering from skin, digestive and hormonal complaints. I discovered over time that I was sensitive to dairy products, cocoa, caffeine and a host of other everyday foods. It wasn’t until my 20’s that I finally realised I was also sensitive to sugar and gluten. As I slowly removed these foods from my diet, it became very clear that health and vitality were indeed possible, and my never ending mild, but irritating health complaints didn’t have to be a part of every day life. My mother who was always keen to treat my complaints naturally helped me to realise I could experiment on alternative therapies. I now rely on homeopathy, massage, nutritional therapy, yoga, counselling, prayer and acupuncture to prevent and treat illness.
Over the years I have experimented with a variety of eating styles but finally settled back to the whole food diet I grew up on. Always very bodily aware I was able to pinpoint quite quickly the foods that suited me best and those that stole my energy. When my husband handed me a leaflet for a training course in Nutrition and Health it seemed like the most logical thing for me to do.
My current thinking revolves around my certainty that we all have the innate capacity to master our own health. We have been given the tools of intuition and a multitude of ancient holistic therapies to bring about the vitality that is rightfully ours to enjoy. Current stressful, fast paced, media driven lives take away our natural intuition and force us to rely on external means to solve our health problems. My work is now dedicated to bringing people back to their intuition and helping them take control of their own health.
Irene trained as a Nutritional Therapist with the Irish Institute of Nutrition and Health. She is a member of Nutritional Therapists of Ireland (NTOI) and the British Association of Applied Nutrition and Nutritional Therapy (BANT). Soon after qualifying she opened ‘Keola Nutritional Therapy’, and immediately began seeing clients. She is now part of the busy Robin Hill team of therapists dedicated to bringing their skills to the people of Cork and beyond. She is also trained as a Yoga instructor and teaches classes in Cork City.
My goal is to improve peoples’ health through achievable dietary changes that are sustainable for life, in addition to giving them the tools to make healthy choices for the future. The primary focus is to do this through food, using supplements where necessary. Healthy food can taste really good and I am very interested in working with people to ensure that they enjoy the food that they eat. I feel that this is the key to maintaining a healthy diet in the long term.
I have a B.Sc from University College Cork, a diploma in Nutritional Therapy from the Institute of Complimentary and Integrated Medicine and am a member of Nutritional Therapists Of Ireland(NTOI).
